I bet no one has mentioned Chrome Shelled Regios. The characters have depth! The plots are interesting! The concept is fresh! Give it a shot!! is the place to go.

my current obsessions are kuroshitsuji and soul eater. and another good one is eyeshield 21, most who don't know the game of football don't think they would be into it...they are in for a surprise. another one i'm watching now is sayonara zetsubou-sensei, i suggest only if you are into random humor, because that about sums up this one.

I know I'm a tad late here, but ToraDora! is a good one, along with Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler in English), and Eden of the East just started here in Japan, so there's only two eps w/ subs so far, but it's looking like it'll be way cool.

I highly recommended "Code Geass".

maybe u can try "07-Ghost" too, btw, it is a new anime.
for me, it is quite nice.^^

You should try watching Doruaga no To: The aegis of uruk, and the second season, the sword of uruk.

The anime is not dissapointing i can tell you, i love the story and the characters are unique. And it can certainly mix comedy and action together perfectly :)

Plus animation seems nice enough :) you should give it a try.

Gurren lagann its an awesome anime
Adrenalynn-X Featured By Owner Apr 17, 2009  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Well it depends what sort of anime you prefer really. I like romances myself mostly. So if you're looking for romance i would go with:
- Ouran High School Host Club (if you havent already heard of it)
-School Days (you will be shocked be the ending)
-Paradise Kiss
-Peach Girl
-Skip Beat
-Vampire Knight

I wouldnt really recommend Naruto and bleach etc. I think i wasted so much time watching like 300 naruto episodes when i first started watching anime. The first series of Bleach was good though, but then it went downhill and we ended up with fillers as usual.

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo, or The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a mix of almost sci-fi, friendship and romance, it is a very good movie, not only from my view, but from a lot of other people.

It is a movie though, not a series.
Kyo Kara Maoh! [saison 2 [link] saison 3 [link] ]
Le Chevalier D'Eon
Claymore, Hellsing,XXXHolic, Tsubasa, Witchblade, Strait Jacket...

i'd like to suggest 07-Ghost too as :iconcinglee: did; if u don't mind the anime is still new & on-going...the series has battles, bishies, sci-fi & i sensed it has some kinda light shounen-ai element as in Toward the Terra ^^/ happy watching~
El-Gato-Grande Featured By Owner Apr 15, 2009
Ah... you have so many suggestions already.... So this might have been mentioned. ^__^; But nevertheless!!

I recommend Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Or Gurren Lagann for short.

It's 27 episodes of absolute epicness, it's hard to describe unless you see it, but here is a link to some more info. :P

Ooh, and I know it is describe as mecha, but it is so much more than that, I promise!! ^__^

I'm into an anime titled: D. Gray Man. If you type the name into you'll get some info.

Yu Yu Hakusho and Legend of Prince Arslan (or titled as Arslan Senkai as well) are awesome.

Should check out some anime movies like Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture or Howl's Moving Castle. Princess Mononoke is a good anime as well. :)

Sekra Featured By Owner Apr 15, 2009
I thought I had an odd taste in anime, but I see so many of my favourites listed here by other people I feel sort of justified.

First off,
As other people have said before, it is just the epitome of epicness. Gorgeous storyline, beautiful characters, a soundtrack that just cannot be beaten and the most unique animation you will ever see. It's never been done before Gankutsuou, and it hasn't been done since. It also boasts an ending that will leave you fully satisfyed. It stands out as one of the best series of anything ever, I cannot reccomend this enough.

This is very compelling, for a series that runs 50 episode long. It gives you anything you might want from an anime. Horror, action, romance, drama, interesting character development and the music (most of it, at any rate) was scored by Mark Mancia (Criminal Minds, Pirates of the Carribean). Another that I would highly reccomend.

Speed Grapher
For the most part, this is a high-paced series about political intrigue (in a way) and the underbelly of high society, finished off with several humans with a severe case of supernatural power. This is, again, another series with a satisfying ending to it.

Black Lagoon
What can I possibly say about this other than it has some very kick-ass chics toting guns? For the record, it does have a storyline that sticks quite well, but for me this is totally overshadowed by the simple fact that I've never seen an anime raise a body count that high, that fast. It is, all around, a series to sit back and just enjoy the ride.

Okay, I'll admit, it is nowhere near as good as the manga series. But, consider the manga and all that intails, it's forgiven.
Berserk is brutal first and foremost, and completely heartbreaking. The storyline is epic, in the way that from beginning to end, you are completely drawn into the world. The characters are complete, even standing alone from the manga. It's a harsh ride with the main character of the story, and one that you feel sympathy for.

Others I might reccomend are:
Death Note
Fruits Basket
Petite Corsette
Darker than Black
Ouran High School Host Club
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop

...Just to name a few XD;. I hope that helps any.

07 Ghost. Can't describe well but you get battles, big secrets to be discovered, surnatural, weird bishops and hot villains (or at least that's what I think ^^)

The bad thing is that it's brand new so only 2 episodes yet but you can still check the manga :)
sakura0104 Featured By Owner Apr 15, 2009  Student General Artist
but then it does depends on whut is "good" to you where an anime is concern XD There are a lot of animes that is mainstream but that doesn't mean it's basically a good anime nee =3

I'd suggest Planetes [link] it's a good anime, it's quite realistic and has some good characters. And also Cowboy Bebop, it's just awesome.

And if that's not your thing Funimation has a HUGE list to choose from! ^_^

Definitely watch the first Full Metal Alchemist series. You'll fall in love with Ed

Last Exile is pretty good, though the english voice version is a little annoying. I'd recommend subtitles.

Paprika is an Anime film I really liked. Future/Sci-Fi themed. Really trippy.

Gilgamesh is older, but has a good plot once you get into it. And excellent animation.

X/1999 is one of my all-time favorites. Its old, but god its gorgeous. Great storyline too. Plenty of conflict.

Princess Mononoke is wonderful & if you like light-hearted stuff definitely check out Spirited Away. (Christian Bale does one of the voices. Yum.)

Wolf's Rain is a great social commentary about the environment & cycle of life.

Blood+ the series (Not Blood: The Last Vampire) is excellent. My favorite anime behind FMA.

Avoid Trinity Blood & Chobits. They're both awful.

if you like funny non-sense anime, I recommend you watch Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-Chan and FLCL (Furi Kuri). Those are my personal favorites ^^. hope I helped ya!!

Sorry if any of this is duplicated

saiyuki( the original 50 episode series, reload and Gunlock switch voice actors and the style of drawing changes along with the comedy of the show)

Full metal Alchemist( Original not 2, awsome series, great style in drawing and has a great plot line. Also one of my favorite Voice actors in it as Ed. it takes a bit to get going, but once it does its awsome)

Dai Guard ( an awsome Mecha anime, great characters and its hilarious)

Hellsing ( the original three disk series is awsome, not like the manga, but still awsome)

Princess Nine ( if you like Baseball you'll like this series as long as you don't mind romance)

Origin ( awsome anime movie, excelent animation and interesting plot)

Akira ( one of the best anime movies ever, its a bit confusing at first, but the animation is top of the line and a must see for any Anime addict)

Mushi-Shi ( awsome feudal Japan series, not based in samurai storyline. It has awsome voice actors/actresses and an interesting anime style)

Samurai 7 ( feudal Japan series based in half futuristic half feudal japan. Good characters and interesting plotline)

Soul Hunter ( hard to get ahold of, but it is an awsome fantasy series, magic, alcholic peaches and a crazy main character)

Desert Punk ( if you don't mind a bit of unsavory behaviour from the main character and alot of attention to big chests on women, its hilarious)

Escaflowne (the original series not the movie. The movie smashes the whole series into two hours and is horrible. the full series is an awsome fantasy mecha adventure, with a bit of romance)

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit ( awsome feudal anime, nice animation and good voice actors/actresses. action packed and great plot line)

Ergo Proxy ( futuristic anime, interesting dark themed anime. Very dramatic, but awsome storyline and great characters)
