Art Rank

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 15, 2010, 7:38 PM

"Thanx for your support!"

I suddenly remembered when I'm studied Fine Art in University and it's so sad to hear most of them were giving a very low perspective on any street artists, saying their art has no content and they were making a thrash.

and now I'm hearing the same old line again, saying I'm making a 'not so high class art' which is I'm a second or maybe third or maybe lower than the ground class artist because I'm doing MANGA art. *blinks*

I love my drawings, you guys enjoyed my drawings what else could I ask for? I love my life.
and if doing Manga will make me a lower class artist, I dun mind at all. LOL
at least I tried being original by creating my own style^^

Have a nice day everyone! : )

The problem with the "fine arts" -institutes is, that they want to stamp their students, making them do what they want them to do and for arts sake -that they dont teach young artists how to make money as an artist is the unspoken rule.
Every emerging artist should pull out of the education what they can, but forget everything useless they teach about the artmarket and make their own way.

I know that in Poland a lot of people go to art universities with open minds and when they finish it most draw/paint similar conceptual pieces that seem empty and uninteresting.
Art is art. Why having a certain style is bad?
I decided long ago: I don't want to do high art, I want to do what is called "only" illustration.

Aww. That hurts. -hugs-

I love drawing Manga too so I think I'm a little offended-- (probably all the Mangaka in the world if they heard). Seriously, they shouldn't judge people with 'High Class' or 'Low Class' or whatever term they use to classify different types of artist/artworks.

Art is defined by the level of fulfillment of the artist and his/her peers. At least, that's what I think of it myself. As long as your art makes you and other people happy-- it's good enough. It's not to be judged by someone else.

Those people may just be insecure since they can't draw manga... :iconsweethugplz:

ANYWAYS, YOU ARTWORKS ROCK! [if they disagree with that, i'm gonna push them from a mountain... amf:heart:]

I get the same comments because I do fantasy and character based art. I've been told it's not real art many times. It is ILLUSTRATION and that doesn't classify as fine art. Just try and ignore them and move on, we all know better, you are amazingly talented.

I like anime style artwork too and I like to draw like that but I was also concern about this style being considered as lower class. Other artists and yes my former teachers consider it to be a kiddish, weak and unprofessional for illustration.

I don't understand why because it can look very good and even rival those of realism and others depending on the skill of the artist.

I wonder if it's okay for an illustrator who uses the anime style to showcase their skill in a portfolio when applying for a job is it? I'm guessing not but I like to know what you guys think.

I got that from my teachers all throughout high school. Even the art teacher at my community college said the same thing. Don't let that get you down. My art teacher in high school had even told me to just quit art all together and "try to find something I'm actually good at." I almost did.
diamonddustlove Featured By Owner Mar 25, 2010
If I was an artist I would want my art to be appreciated by as many people as possible while I was still alive, rather than after I'm dead just because I can't draw anymore. And besides it doesn't get any higher class for me than hot guys!!!! hehehe

Lol lower class? What's high class? Honestly at one point impressionism was considered low class. Love your style =D

Art is art and no one has the right to criticize it.
It is a vision of your creativity and dreams manifested in a medium.
It doesn't need a rating or 'label'.
You have a good attitude.^^

People who think that manga style art is "not real art" ... are idiots. XD It's so unfortunate that point of view seems to be so common in art schools, though. :(
Art isn't about "class", it's about expression! It's really sad when people get so caught up being haughty and clique-ish, going around trying to define what makes "real art" and what doesn't... they end up losing the whole meaning of art. XD;

Just keep going with your art in exactly the way you want to  You have a lot of talent and skill, regardless of what any of them say :)

i think this kind of opinion in the old fashioned professors heads stems partly from the fact that manga is's a subgenre of modern pop art in my head
i do agree on the consumerist part though...i don't consider anything that is mass produced art but the original design for characters and stuff remains exactly that - original
you can be snob all you want but a painting is a painting and is classed as art whether traditional or digital
look at someone like Yoshimoto Nara for example. He has a very cartoon style but is considered a high class artist....i think it actually comes down to substance really and that's the only problem with manga style art. Since it's such a widespread style nowadays (aaaaand mainly with younger untrained artist wannabees) a lot of it lacks substance and for all the snobs out there it's much easier to simply shrug off the whole style than to try and look for the real gems in a pile of glass

You're awesome and whoever doesnt think manga art is on their "level" then screw them ^_^

Psssh People are stupid. Drawing manga is not a lower form of art.
girl-silip Featured By Owner Mar 17, 2010
i dont know what kind of 'ART' they used to make. The originality, taste of unique perspective and a touch of self- expression is the common formula of TRUE ART. You cant please everybody in this tiny world but there is always someone who will appreciate you and who you are... BALANCE.

I think this 'critics' exist because we need to surpass the best of being best of ourself and to put more of what we are lacking.

BUT FOR ME, Your ART is body of 'WONDER' land. ONE BIG YAHOO for you!
AtlantisLux Featured By Owner Mar 17, 2010
Bah, I think those poor fools are sorely mistaking. Your art is amazing, you're one of the best artist here, one who works hard in creating a unique style, and my heart cringes at the mention of "lower art".
Art is art, how can it be classified? Beside, I love street artists, they are quite common in my country. It's incredible what they can draw and even quite... heartbreaking if you think at the amount of work and passion they put in something so ephemeral.
SilverLynxy Featured By Owner Mar 16, 2010
If you think about it, then Picasso's really strange and bizarre crap is considered "high class art." [link] *Raised eyebrow* That stuff looks like something he painted while on LSD. In that case, I'd take anime/manga style art over "high class art" any day. Art teachers are just all miffed at the idea that a style that is newer to them and not from the traditional "Western" root of art is becoming popular. Anime/manga art still requires skill for proportions, perspectives, and conveyance of emotions. You're doing great! Keep up the good work. ^_^

In my university Manga is unacceptable,
I often heard prof said like wahat you've heard too.
I somehow understand what thay mean but for me "rank" is "social value"
if ths their Hi-class is not the true me so I can not do
sine art for me come from the way artist want to express theirselves.
That has no rule for art and don't let them rule your way.

Plz do what is "the TRUE YOU" and keep the way you love, Max
For me Manga is nothing wrong and also can be inspiration to many people.
and Yes, your works too gave us a lot. Your works has much meaning enough for Art.
You have own value that doesn't depend on those rank.
Plz remember We love your art.

PS. I wish I'd write this better.
Sorry for my poor eng.

Throughout 4 years studies, I keep my hatred deep down inside. Yup I'm young and I'm angry^^ I love to studies but I disagree with art rank.
God*I believed in god* given us this skills so WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE any arts?

Human made the rank.

lol. well as far as I'm concerned the style of art you do has NOTHING to do with wether or not you are a "lower class artist"! some of the best artist i have ever seen in life have been anime and manga artist. actually one of the reasons why i stick to it is because i find it much more challenging to draw, and much prettier!
I love your art!

So many people love your drawings: anyone who says you are a "lower class" does not appreciate enough.

Also, I think that the whole "hits" count on deviantART is flawed because I very rarely visit your profile but I am always visiting your gallery!!
MiniChiiQuu Featured By Owner Mar 16, 2010
Let them talk. Cause that's all it is. Just "talk". Besides, who decides what "low" class and "high" class art is anyways. Who decides there actually "is" such a thing as difference in class.
Your art is amazing. Keep doing your thing, we love it. = )

I get exactly the same at college, don't worry. My art has been desribed by my teachers are 'boring', 'cheap' and 'always the same thing'. You learn to become immune to it. :XD: Don't worry, your art is amazing. And so is your attitude, I wish I had your acceptance! :D

"Fine artists" and "art schools" have no credibility in my eyes. NONE. I've come across many people who've graduated from art schools and couldn't draw their way out of a paperbag. I was told by a fine art *critic* years ago that I would never make it in the art world unless I stopped doing "fantasy crap". I've now been a professional artist for almost 15 years... doing nothing but "fantasy crap". When it comes to "fine art", the emperor is naked. Art is what YOU make it. It's as subjective as beauty.
chaos-of-vinnie Featured By Owner Mar 16, 2010
Gah....I got that so much in college, it's so agrovating to hear that all the time! How can doing manga art not be 'original' no-one is 'orginal' these days everyone gets influence from other artists. And yes like you and so many others, people have created there own style I've seen so many people do the 'traditional' manga in so many different ways.

Sorry, but I've had to hear that so much it gets a little annoying after awhile...
Congrats on the hits and yes keep doing what you enjoy, after all isn't that what life is about :D

I feel your pain. Got the same line of crap back when I was in school. Your work is very nice and would make amazing fine art on the wall of any upper class establishment. The fine artist are just so stuck in their own behinds to see past their own nose.

If its thrash, then I'm cool. At least I'm happy doing something that I really love, without the thought of starting a war amongst artists due to difference thoughts in art styles.

Meh, common thing this is I guess. Anything at all, nothing can beat a good response from the viewers. Nuff said.

Mawi was a bad singer, the judges knows it, professional singers know it, but his fans made him famous. Majority rules.

don't let people tell you that manga art is in a lower class, those types are just snobs. Professionally, I'm a Graphic Designer, so I may see things differently than "Fine Artists" :P but at any rate, keep at what you love...and you're phenomenal at it. :aww:

i know it's good to listen to others' opinions, but sometimes, me gotta make a stand. like the time my friend whose views i value a lot, she looked down on my comic submission for a contest once, she said:' why do u spend so much time on THAT piece so much?' but i was in a rebellious mood and send it in anyway. it got into the finalist. how's that?:D

your artwork's marvelous and cool, with your own style's stamp, so bugger the sometime cynics~XDDDhahahaha
